Dantry Play Date

We had a Dantry Danes play date this Saturday at another owners house. They live in the country north of Toronto, so it was a perfect setting for a Dane gathering (although everyone pretty much stayed around their front (400 foot) driveway.

As if we didn't already know, Echo was the biggest in terms of tallness, and thickness.... and produced the MOST slobber!! He was also the "craziest" never really settling down going from dog to dog and person to person. The nice thing about Dane owners is, you don't really have to apologize or feel bad when your dog slobbers them, because they're used to it (although, no one was prepared for amount of slobber Echo was bringing to the table!). We still did though because he has a bad habit of looking up at their face (trying to lick it), and resting his chin on your chest. He used every other dog's back as a napkin, though, so it didn't get too bad...

In fact he dwarfed most of the danes there. It was pretty funny/strange. The full grown female Danes looked like PUPPIES to us! lol (we wanted a smaller female, remember?)
Nearing the end of the day, Echo's mouth started to dry out, but as the breeder put it, he was probably just getting dehydrated!

It turns out that our breeder is also pregnant and is due 2 weeks after us. She joked that she'll be calling US for advice with the baby and dogs! I don't know how they'll manage with a newborn and 12 Danes in one small farm house....

All in all, there were 17 Danes with their owners at the house over the course of the afternoon! It was so fun for Echo, and he's *Still* wiped out from it.

A funny moment was when we were talking to the owners of the house (Chris and Ann, who have a full brother of the same litter as Echo) along with the breeder, and Marn said that Echo's height is nice because we are taller people and don't have to bend down to pet him. So Chris says, Charlie is the same for them and then hypothesized that maybe Danes grow as tall as their owners need them to be. Then he goes to demonstrate arching his back and thinking like a Dane, "oh, I'm not getting pet enough, need to stretch and grow taller".
Ok, we'll that didn't come across as funny as it was at the time. Mark it up to my poor story-telling skills....

Anyway, I took some pics, but don't have them on me, but I'll post them when I get them to the computer.

Can you guess which one is Echo?

Playing with his brother and host, Charlie

He looks a "little bit" bigger than some others...
