This weekend we are going camping for the first time. Marn and I have never been together and we obviously haven't been with Violet before, so we're really looking forward to it. We were invited to go with Candace and Dave and some of their friends, all with kids, so it should be fun. We're hoping to go to the beach one of the days as well since the camp grounds are just north of Grand Bend (we're camping in Goderich).
We're also hoping that the weather warms up! I'm having a love-hate relationship with the weather this summer. I'm loving how cool it's been at night (great sleeping weather and awesome that we've used the A/C only once so far), but I'm hating how cold and rainy it's been during the days as well. It does not feel like summer at all and it's half over! We're also worried about the cold at night during camping. Hopefully it will warm up just a little bit to take the chill out. There have been more than a few times this summer that I've woken up in the morning freezing to the bones (the window is right above our heads in our room) and having to use our winter duvet to stay warm. Some mornings it's felt like you could see your breath if you tried. Not fun camping weather, especially with a baby (or so I assume).
It's also projected to rain again this weekend, like pretty much every weekend so far this year. We're hoping that holds off or is minimized as well!

Stairs
Right after my last post on Violet, I received new information about her "abilities".
She does stairs, no problem. Thank you Nancy! (sarcastic) Nancy showed her one time, and since then, has been obsessed with climbing stairs. The other day Marn was upstairs on the computer with her playing, when all the sudden realized that she wasn't beside her anymore, and couldn't see her. If you know our house, you know that there are 3 steps between the bedrooms and great room (play room now). Well Vi decided to truck up there herself and was found in our bedroom crawling around and checking things out. This was not even 1 full day after Nancy "taught" her. That same night, Marn went out to grab something and Vi and I played upstairs. She was constantly trying to go to the stairs to climb them - she had a one track mind and wouldn't stop until she got there. Obviously she doesn't know how to climb down stairs, and is still a bit wobbly on them, but still.... from nothing to full blown stair climbing in one day! On Wednesday evening Nancy and Drew came over to watch her for an hour for us and Nancy let her completely climb the big stairs. Crazy!
I also have to eat my words a little in the previous post because I said that she wasn't furniture walking yet. That night, she pulled herself up on a toy and transfered to another tall toy beside her. So that's pretty much what I consider furniture walking. At the pace she is picking up new getting-around skills, she'll be able to go anywhere she wants in a week.
Her other front tooth has recently popped through as well, so now she the two top and bottom front teeth -- a little beaver. I think because of the teething she has been grumpier than usual. She typically screams when I take her away from Mom, but it only lasts for 30 seconds, then is fine. Last night she would not go down and was up until after 10, fighting most of the night. I'm sure this will get worse as the others start to come in!

More Milestones
Vi is now starting to imitate. It's really cute. She'll try and say similar sounds and also move her arms in similar movements as you. I noticed this about a week ago when I was sitting next to her and had my arms over my head stretching and making that "tired groan" noise. She was watching me the whole time and tried to repeat me. I didn't notice it at first, but after a while it clued in that that's what she was doing. So I repeated myself and watched, and sure enough she did it again. Arms up and made a noise. Too cute! When I'm feeding her, I'll put my arms up and shrug my shoulders like "I don't know?", and she'll try and repeat it. I love it.
She's getting to be quite the excellent crawler now, and has just started to push and pull herself up onto couches and things into a standing position. She started with pushing herself up -- but the toy, or whatever had to be at or below her waist and she could push up into a stand, but now (just today, as reported by Marn on the phone this morning) she pulled herself up from something that was higher. It won't be long now where she'll be furniture walking! She really likes to "walk" (while holding her hands and standing over her) with the biggest wobbly high steps ever.
She's also started doing a "cutesy face". Scrunching up her nose with a wide closed-mouth smile and squinted eyes. I think every kid does them at some point, but when it's your own, it's a little cuter than usual, even though it's not really a cute face at all. It's more cute that she thinks it's a cute face. We've been trying to get a picture of it, but haven't had any luck so far.
I've noticed we haven't posted pics of her for a while, so I'll get on that soon....
We are still kind of looking for a new house back in the city. We keep flopping back and forth on it, actually. Do we stay or do we go? Marn thought she decided to stay for another 2 years and try and pound away at our mortgage and then make a move. We would likely miss the dip in housing prices by doing that as well (this region isn't really hurting in the housing market anyway...).
We walked through a house last night that we absolutely love, but it was close the expressway and very loud in the backyard which totally ruins everything about the place for us. It was a bungalow with 2-sided wood-burning fireplace, but also had some "quirks" (ie: only 2 bedrooms, no en-suite, a strange basement...) It's really too bad because we really, really love the house and the yard. The yard was 80 feet wide and 350 feet deep. No, that's not a typo... over half of an acre in the city, backing on to forest (with the expressway after that). In fact, more than half of the backyard is forest -- the current owners decided to cut off their usable yard less than half way and let the forest grow in. We'd have about an 80 x 200 foot private forest, or clear some space out and make the yard even bigger - Echo would have LOVED that! Very, very rare to find something like this in the city, and in our price range (albeit, on the very high side of our limit). But the noise, ugh!! We decided that we couldn't live with it. It was probably a good thing that we went right at rush hour (5:30) to experience what it would be like every morning and evening, but never really going away. You couldn't hear the noise in the house, though. We drove by on Sunday afternoon as well, and there was still a fairly loud "shh" from the highway, so you would have to be ok with constant white noise. The thing that drove it home that the house wasn't right for us was a comment by Marn's mom; "It's not like the Expressway is going to get less busy - in fact it will probably get worse over time". Yup, she's right, and we couldn't do it. Which TOTALLY sucks. We LOVE the house and yard!

Keeping on the tooth theme...
Marn and Violet have been at a cottage all week with her sister and family, and after the first day there, Marn called me to tell me that Violet finally broke some more teeth! Her top front teeth or tooth(?) finally came through. It was 3 months ago that her bottom 2 came in while in BC, so it's been a long time coming. We knew it was going to happen soon because she was drooling like crazy and gumming everything in sight.
They get home tonight, and can't wait to see them (and the new tooth)! I miss them when they're gone. I'm sure Vi will play a little shy towards me at first, which really sucks, but she's warming up quicker to people these days, so the 5 minutes she does that will go by fast.
I've been keeping busy by playing too much PS3....
