Des and the soos
This morning Desmond came in and had a nice snuggle in our bed, along with his Strawberry and Soosy. Marn was talking to him and telling him that pretty soon he didn't need that soos because he was getting big. "Daddy, doesn't have a soos. Mommy doesn't have a soos. Violet doesn't have a soos..." and before she could get out "Desmond doesn't need a soos and without skipping a beat he belts out, "I Do!", all proud of himself. bahahaha.. we both howled! Such a smartie.

swollen much?
This is what day 3 looks like after the oral surgery I had... fun, huh?
Hopefully it'll start going down after today....
The surgery was a bone graft from my lower right jaw into the front of my upper jaw in order to build up the bone for a successful implant in a few months time. The front of my mouth isn't swollen much, but my cheek, jaw and sinus area sure is!! Icing doesn't seem to be helping much.

The other tooth
So I had my follow up appt with the dental surgeon last week and received news that I didn't want to hear. It's essentially the worst case scenario. I will require a bone graft from my lower jaw behind my wisdom tooth to build up the bone on the top jaw. The bone has eroded over the years to the point where it's extremely "thin" and will not support an implant. He said even with the graft, it will be thin and they won't be able to get the implant in as deep as they would like. They put in some synthetic bone marrow when they removed the tooth to help it grow and thicken up, but he said that it seems like that did nothing, which was discouraging (that alone was another $300-400 I think). They did that with the other tooth and it did help, or so he said.
It will feel like I've had my wisdom tooth pulled out at the donor site so will be swollen and sore for a few days. My upper front mouth where the recipient site is will be swollen and sore as well. I'll have another 4-5 months of recovery time where I'll be assessed again and hopefully have the implant put in at that time. If I can, it'll be another 4+ months of recovery before the crown can be placed on it.
I'm scheduled for the bone graft on July 31 and needless to say I'm a little bit stressed about it. There's a possibility that it won't be successful, or the implant won't be. The same "odds" as the previous implant. I will be so pissed and discouraged if it doesn't "take", not to mention missing a few thousand dollars and a mouth that's been hacked up.

Blog Motivation
We've (I've) lost a lot of motivation to blog lately. I don't know why? I just don't seem to have the time, or want to make the time to sit down and blog lately. But I did want to put something in today before I forget about it and it has to do with something that Desmond has been doing for a few weeks now. It's just soo stinking cute.
First off, he's talking SO much now. He's such a little boy now with how much he talks and understands and he's really starting to show his personality and humour (for better or worse). He regularly strings together 4, 5 and 6 words together in sentences. Marn's mom thinks his speech is "incredible" for his age, and we have to agree. It's often better than some friends' kids who are a year or more older. But don't get me wrong, there's still a lot of gibberish in there too. He started later than Violet with talking, but he's caught up strong and maybe surpassed? I'll try and post another video soon with him chatting. I'm especially trying to capture this "thing" he says now.
He'll ask a question about something that he knows the answer to already. Often it's, Where's Mommy going? or Where's Violet? and then I'll answer him and say, She's at work, or Violet's in her room. Then he'll say, "Oh Cool!" Now, in type, this doesn't seem cute or very funny at all, but it's how he says it that's so funny. He's gotten a few laughs out of us which he's picked up on and now when he says it, he's already smiling and grinning over his reply before he even says it. And then when he says it, he'll laugh at himself for being so funny at his new phrase.
I've been unsuccessful in trying to record this so far, but I'm going to keep trying!! I don't want to forget about it. We're already noticing that we haven't recorded as much or taken as many pictures of Des compared to Violet and we both said that we wouldn't do that... need to make a more conscious effort to do so.
There are a few other phrases that he's picked up from different people and when he says them it cracks us up, like;
"Oh Boy" or "Oh Dear" if he drops something
long exaggerated "hhuuuHH" that goes up in pitch at the end. He and Violet say it when something funny/silly/strange happens.
He's picked up a TON of nursery rhymes and songs, even "popular" radio hits he'll start singing to in the car - Call Me Maybe, Somebody I Used to Know, We Are Young, Adele songs, and lots of others.
I know I said this about Violet at this age, but it's SOOO true. You just want to record them all day long to keep these memories.

Desmonds Talking
Just a quick video of Desmond. He's really chatting and saying a lot of words now. We have a book of 100 first words that we read to him at night. We've stopped reading it and just let him say them all as we point around. It's all animals and he says just about all of them now, or tries to. "Violet" is one of the newer words he's learned and is saying it all the time. I love it and loving this age right now.
We'll try and update on our Florida trip, but just not feeling like Blogging lately. In short, it was great, no one got sick and we had amazing weather every day. Next year, the rumour is we'll try for 2 weeks! :)

Violet's Dance "Recital"
Last week Violet had her last dance class (more like a movement class) for the session where they allow parents and relatives come to watch what they've learned and perform a little recital of sorts. It's pretty cute. She was very excited to have us there, but especially Granny. She kept turning to us and waiving and saying "hi granny!" and then putting her finger to her mouth in a hush kind of motion (as we were telling her to pay attention to the teacher and doing that to her).
This is the second time that she's done this class and generally really likes it. We're not sure that we're going to do that again, or put her in ballet. We don't want to do ballet, but she insists that she's going to grow up to be a ballerina and keeps asking....
Don't you love the kid in the jeans, button down long sleeved shirt and sweater vest? Yah. Every week. Poor guy is going to be "one of those" kids in gym class when he's older... lol
