update
I haven't written in a while, as I've been extremely busy at home and work lately. It's a good thing... and a bad thing since I'll be off for a few weeks soon, so work will have to wait.
I completed a rather large upgrade of our computer systems here at work over the long weekend... and boy was it LONG. I worked over 32 hours in the office, and another 5 or more at home over the three days, plus many more hours after work during the week fixing little bugs. By Thursday/Friday last week, everything seemed better and settled down. Not my smoothest upgrade to date, but also not the easiest, either. The extra hours will be taken in lieu of holidays when the baby comes.
Anyway, Marn is still doing well. We're feeling like the baby is going to come any day now (obviously) - I don't think it's really sunk in yet for me, and probably won't until I'm at the hospital!
In the last couple of days, we finally received the la-z boy chair. It's SOOO comfy! and once it's set up, there will be some fights to sit in it for sure. :) We're going to take the love seat from upstairs down to the basement to make room for that, and then the bouncy Ikea chair is going in the baby's room. Marn's mom thinks that there is enough room upstairs to keep it all up there, but we're not sure. Might need to re-arrange a bit to check it out.
The rest of the baby furniture hasn't arrived yet. I have a feeling that the baby will be here before the dresser.
I took some pics of Marn and the baby room last night, so I'll try and get those up soon.
We also bought all the materials for building a shed from Home Hardware -- they have Sheds where they give you the plans and all the materials, and just charge you the cost of the material. So I went with that option instead of trying to wing it. There was no added cost for doing that - it's truly just cost of materials which would be close to what I would be doing anyway, and as an added bonus, you get real plans to follow. It was still more than I thought, though. I guess I'm just cheap.
While we were there, we noticed that they had a big sale on wall tile as well, so we browsed over that and found one that we both really liked - 1x2 subway tiles in 12" sheets. After bringing a sample home, we decided that was it, so we went back and bought that too! Yes, we finally picked a back splash!
So, between now and when the baby comes, do you think I can put up a kitchen back splash and build a shed? Not likely.... But I am taking time off after the baby, so hopefully will have some time then -- my neighbours laugh when I tell them that.
If this weekend is "uneventful", I'll maybe start the back splash which could be done in one weekend. The shed can wait, even though the materials are being delivered on Thursday!
Anyway, Marn had her probably last mid-wife appt yesterday, and was told that she's dilated 1cm already... what??! That can happen before labour? She said the baby is right down there too. Marn says that's why she feels like something's between her legs lately. There have been no other symptoms yet that things are about to begin, although Marn swears that she had 2 labour pains a few nights ago. My date is tomorrow, Sept. 10 (for a girl - most are saying boy), so if yesterday's exam was any indication, I could be right! I'm actually a little shocked that she's gone on this long since her sister went 2 weeks, then 3 weeks early with Braeden and Sadie -- we're already only 6 days away from the 15th.

Shed
We've been talking about building a shed for a while this summer, but decided to wait until the baby was born to do it. Why? Because I'm taking 3 weeks off when that occurs! It's not a year like Marn has, but it's 3 weeks (!) and I'm really looking forward to it. Who knows how much time I'll actually have to commit to building a shed, but if I get it started, that's what counts. As long as I get a roof on it this summer, I'll be happy, but I do plan on finishing before winter in order to clear out some of the clutter in the garage.
I'm hoping to get the base started for the shed on Sunday. I'll be digging out some holes and filling with sand/gravel, then using deck blocks to level out with pressure treated 4x4's as a base. But I guess I should draw up some sort of plan first...
You may be asking yourself, what happened to the back splash? Good question! I haven't done it yet as we haven't picked out anything for it yet. But we did find a cool black/brown small square glass back splash that we think looks good. We may end up doing that, but it seems expensive. I've also heard that glass is tough to install, so I don't know. We haven't actually looked for back splash very much in the last few months.

Last Day of Work!
Well this is starting to hit home now. Marnie is DONE work for over a YEAR after today!! If we planned it right, she'll have 3 weeks to relax before the baby comes, but I'm nervous it'll be here well before that. Nervous because I'm not ready!! (can you ever be?) We haven't settled on any names, and the baby room isn't finished, and we just found out that the rest of the furniture won't be here for another 2-3 weeks. I've also been complaining about a lot of heartburn lately. It comes in waves with me. I'll have it constantly for a while, and then nothing for months. It's been bad lately. Marn mentioned the other day if I'm nervous about the baby coming, and that's probably what's causing the heartburn... I hadn't thought of that, but she's likely right!
In other baby news, our Friend/Neighbour/Hairdresser, who was due 2 weeks ahead of Marn, had her baby yesterday (about a week early)! They now have a baby girl and 4 year old boy. We came home from work yesterday to see their front entrance decorated with pink balloons, tissue paper, and ribbon. We haven't gone over yet to see them and the baby, but we're so happy for them!
We also found out that our neighbours on the corner beside us are possibly selling their house and moving to New Hamburg where they both grew up (literally 5-10 minutes down the road). The for sale sign is up. This is kind of sad because they were the first people on the court, and really give it a "home" feeling. They are the "garage people", but in a good way - always there to hand you a beer or go and chat with. Super nice people as well, always willing to lend a helping hand. We knew they were thinking about it for a while, and I think the plan is they are pricing their house a little high to see what happens. They love our court, the neighbours and the larger lots we have, but they wanted a bigger house (and will have to suffer with a smaller lot). If they do move, I think they'll miss all of that more than they realize. I looked last night and they priced it at $339,900, which is about $140,000 more than they paid 5 years ago. Good deal if they get it! The only major difference between their house and ours is they have a finished basement, but our house is slightly bigger (but a different model and not on a corner). The house across the street, same model as ours, went for about $328,000 4 months ago...
Edit: The house across the street went for $302,000 4 months ago. So you can see how $340,000 is a stretch...

Prenatal Classes and BBQ
We had another fairly busy couple of days this past weekend as we had our prenatal class all day on Saturday and then a bunch of friends and the kids over on Sunday for a lunch BBQ.
The prenatal class went well and we both learned a few things, most of which don't make for good "story telling", so I'll leave it at that... But it really made us realize just how close we are to welcoming new life into ours. The instructor told us that we should already have a "birth plan" written down, our bag packed for the hospital, and practice on putting the car seat in, then leaving it there so that it's done when the time comes. That made us a little nervous because really, this baby could come any day now! Marn is 36 weeks this week which really does mean that the baby is pretty much done the major maturing and is now starting to get ready to come out. At 37 weeks it's considered full term.
We had another midwife appointment on Monday, they are every week now, and this time it was with our 3rd backup. She didn't think the baby was dropping a lot yet, which I translate to, we have a few weeks left yet (*breathe*), but I think, and a lot of my friends think she has started to drop in the last 2 weeks. She told us again that we needed to get our hospital bag together and should have a birth plan, if we wanted anything done specifically.
On Sunday we hosted a BBQ for my friends which worked out well since Bern and Don and their 2 kids were in town for Louise and Kevin's wedding. In all we had 11 adults (including us) and 6 kids and a huge, drooly dog, but could have been 14 adults and 9 kids, but some people couldn't make it. It was a busy afternoon, but really fun and it was great to have everyone over for a visit since we rarely get to do that anymore. We made chicken Souvlaki and Greek salad and potatoes again since we loved that when Candace and Dave were over the other day, and it's fairly easy to make. I think everyone loved it... at least those who did commented a lot on it.
We are going to try and host a nice BBQ lunch like that every summer. It's so fun to see everyone, especially all the kids and how they are growing since we typically only see them once or twice a year.
I'll try and get some pics soon as I've been bad at emptying the camera lately. I also want to get some more belly shots of Marn since she's much bigger that when we had the photo shoot!

Busy Weekend
We had a good productive weekend this past long weekend, but even still didn't get done as much as I wanted to. I think I set my goals too high...
anyway, the baby's room is painted and the baby crib is assembled. I might need to touch up a few little spots, but it's pretty much done. We're waiting for the rest of the furniture now, and I still want to steam clean the carpet, but all the major stuff is done. We only need to hang some pictures and get drapes, etc.
I finally got around to borrowing my neighbours table saw and was able to trim and put back all the kick plates around the kitchen cabinets. It's amazing how much more finished the kitchen floor looks now. The plate under the kitchen sweep is not back completely yet because I want to reinforce that piece due to the pressure that the vacuum creates on it. I haven't put the baseboards back on yet either, or sealed the grout.
Saturday night we had planned to have Carey and Chris over with Mya (Cora was staying at the grandparents for the weekend) for Greek dinner, but Chris wasn't feeling well so they canceled. In their place, Candace and Dave and the kids came over and ended up staying overnight! It's surprising because it wasn't really planned, but it was great because they stayed longer and we watched a movie, Vantage Point, which was pretty good!).
Sunday we went into Cambridge to see Mom and drop off a coffee maker for her church and/or Sweet Adeline's group. We got it from Nancy's work who was looking to trash it, so Mom said they would make good use of it when they have their fund raiser, singing things. On our way there Chris and Carey called to see if we wanted to meet them for a late lunch at Moose Winooski's. It ended up working out perfectly so we did that - Sports World is under going a complete makeover right now. I'm not sure what's going on, but the whole place has been flattened and closed down. It looks like they're building a resort type of place with big hotel type of building. Everything is gone, or closed including the water slides, mini golf, go-carts, arcade... I hope they bring that stuff back because it's the only place around here like that!
I'll get some pics up of the baby room when it's a little closer to being finished.

I need to trim the bottom so that it doesn't drag on the ground, and then put a support beam across the top to help it stay up.
