Another tooth update
I had a second follow-up appointment with the dentist this morning to check on my healing. He said it's looking fine. Then he drops a bit of a shock on me saying that it looks like I'll need more grafting done before the implant, but that he won't know for another few months. He said, he'll likely need to take some bone from "here" (pointing at his lower jaw bone) and put it" there" (pointing to his front tooth). I must have looked confused because he asked if he told me about that before. I said no, the only thing he said was that I might need more grafting at the time of the implant. He said, yes, possibly that as well. Awesome. So in October, I get to go back, and most likely have more surgery to get some bone from my lower jaw to put into that tooth cavity. Then wait another "4 to 6 months" before the implant. At that time probably have even more grafting material stuffed in with the implant, then another "4 to 6 months" to heal before the crown. Crazy, and annoying. But hopefully worth it in the end. I think the thing I'm most annoyed at is having to wear the denture for at least another year from the sounds of things....

Girl On The Move, Part 2
She crawls, and we caught the first of it on tape. Ok, technically, the second "real" crawl as I scrambled to get the video tape. Vi has been sick for the past week and a bit, and has not been herself. Cranky, snotty, coughing, freaking when wiping her nose, slight fever, not sleeping -- like everyone when you're not feeling well. Yesterday she seemed to break out of it. I noticed right away when I got home from work. Big smiles and after my hug and kiss, no crying after that which has been a regular thing the past week and a half. During dinner, she actually ate and was opening her mouth for it, something that she stopped doing the past week, fighting us the whole time. It was a great thing to see as the "other" baby we've had wasn't such a joy all the time.
Just before getting ready for bed, she and I were playing upstairs on the floor and she was in her normal, "I'm going to crawl" mode, but never really did. She did one quick crawl out but that was it until Marn threw down some bed-time clothes. She has this cute thing now (that we really have to watch if there's a bag nearby!) where she picks up clothes, or a towel or something and pulls it over her head repeatedly. She thinks it's hilarious and she goes after any clothes that might be nearby. Well, she did just that. Saw the clothes about 5 feet from her, and started crawling right on over to grab them like it was nothing! Both Marn and I were like, what!? It was perfect crawling. No wavering or wobbling. Just straight to them! When she got them, she was so proud of the fact, never mind both Marn and I screaming at her that she's crawling. I grabbed the camera to get the last 2 feet of it. Marn grabbed the clothes and moved to the other side of the room, coaxed Vi to crawl over to get them to prove it wasn't fluke, and she did. No problem. All on tape. In order to post this video, I'm going to have to do some creative sound editing, because we were both sounding like idiots yelling and laughing at her...
So, Marn's life as she knows it now is officially over as of yesterday evening. Now comes the constant chasing and correcting! Fun, fun?

What a cutie, eh?
Total fluke that we ran into them, but very cool nonetheless. They were checking out of the hotel at the same time as us. I first saw Ron when I came back from getting the car. Marn was waiting for me in the lobby, and I walked past him as I came in. I was like, whoa? Looking at him again then realized who it was. I motioned at Marn, saying that's Ron MacLean! At first she didn't know who I meant, so I said the CBC Hockey guy and she knew. I had to run back up to the room because we forgot something, and when I came back down, Don Cherry was there (looking very tired and old). They were parked in front of us in front of the hotel and while we were packing up the car Marn was holding Violet's arm and waving at Cherry saying, "say Hi Violet!". He looked over and smiled then said, "What a cutie, eh?", then got in the car saying something to Ron about an article in the paper about Balsillie.
I find it funny that Ron was driving and Cherry in the passenger seat. I'm sure they had separate rooms, but funny that they drive themselves to the games? Truely Canadian...

I'll blame the drugs
I'm supposed to be swishing with Salt water after eating and before and after sleeping for the next week to help keep the area clean in my mouth. So I did last night before bed. It's only a 1/2 tsp in a cup of water, so not very salty. Well last night after making up my saline solution, I swished it and thought... hmmm, not very salty. I added a bit more and swished again. Still not very salty. Ah well, maybe my taste is off from the pain meds and/or antibiotics, and went to bed not thinking anything of it. This morning I woke up and swished again from the left over "saline" solution after brushing my teeth and again it didn't taste salty. Whatever, I'm late for work, grabbed a bagel and left. I filled a small container of "salt" so that I could make my "saline" solution at work and swish after lunches. I'd also swish again this morning after I ate my bagel and coffee (wasn't supposed to eat/drink anything hot - there's always an exception for morning coffee, no?) on the way to work. So after the coffee at work, I proceeded to make my solution and swish again, but it tasted a little on the sweet side. I thought, what? So I tasted the "salt" straight from the container to find out that it wasn't salt at all. I had been making a sugar water solution to swish around in my mouth the last 4 times!! LOL
I prefer the sugar water to the salt water, but I somehow doubt that it has the same effect...
I don't know why it took me so long to figure this out? It was the meds. Yeah, that's it, the meds.
Anyway, I have a little pain today, and a little swelling, but nothing too great. I haven't taken pain meds today for it, so it's really not bad at all. I'm trying to wear the denture and get used to it, but it really sucks. I'm mostly wearing it to prevent me from "playing" with the stitches with my tongue. Instead my tongue has this huge piece of plastic to keep busy with.

ouch
Well that wasn't fun at all, and the outcome unfortunately was the worst case. They were only able to extract the tooth today. Once it was out, he found some slight infection in the canal. He cleaned that out and while poking around, saw that I had a small perforation in the bone towards the nasal cavity. So, he didn't think it was the best idea to put the implant in at this time. Instead, he stuffed it with bone grafting and sutured it up. In 4 months he'll look at how the bone is taking and there's a possibility that I'll have to have some more grafting in before the implant goes in. This could go on for another 8 months before it's all over. I was REALLY hoping that I could have had the implant in and done with today, but it wasn't meant to be.
I've forgotten how much freezing needles hurt -- ESPECIALLY into your gum line! God, that really sucked. Apparently, I wasn't looking too good when they were doing that and laid me down and gave me some oxygen. I'm sure I was pretty white. I definitely was on the verge of passing out. Sweating and all.
I'm sore and swollen and just now do I have feeling back in my upper lip. It's going to take a while to get used to that damned flipper denture as well. It's so very uncomfortable. It feels like it's pressing out my upper teeth, and feels very thick. Like a huge piece of gum pressed against the front roof of your mouth. It literally sounds like I'm sucking on something in my mouth when I talk. But, it looks ok if I don't open up very big.
This sucks. Hopefully this will be worth it...

follow the bouncing tooth
I'm getting my tooth pulled and (hopefully) post implant in tomorrow afternoon. And it couldn't be better timing. I took a bit of my apple this afternoon, and the recently re-set crown popped off again (the fake post broke off again). For F sakes, this is turning into a joke.
This post/implant thing better work!!
