Oktoberfest 10k!

Marnie has been doing a walk/run training program all summer with a few girls from work to gradually work up to be able to run a 10k run... and that goal was realized on Sunday! Her time was 1 hour and 2 minutes. I couldn't be prouder! :) Echo and I waited near the finish line and when we saw her coming, ran out and finished the last 20 meters with her.
I have a picture on our camera that I'll post of her near the finish line. She looks pretty good after running for an hour straight!

The Official Entry is...

Well, We decided last night on the photo to submit... sorry I didn't give you much time to view them! They were due in this weekend, so we wanted to email it before we forgot. I have no idea when they make the selections, but I'm sure we'll find out in a few weeks - the calendars will be ready December 1.
Echo also starts his level 2 training Oct. 26, so we need to get back to regular training with him. I have to admit that since the weather has turned colder, we haven't spent as much time as we should with him, although Marnie did do some stuff with him while I was in Savannah.

Echo's Calendar entry

We are trying to come up with a picture to submit to our trainer for the "Delightful Dog's 2007 Calendar". We're only allowed to submit one photo. It can't have humans in it. It can be related to a month, or not. and need's to be submitted next week!

So on Thanksgiving Monday, we took Echo out to Langdon Hall's trails to take some shots with our friend Sarah -- the trails are beautiful this time of year and thought we'd try for a "fall entry" with the calendar. We might have tough competition, because I'm sure that people will be submitting their dog's with Halloween themes which also capture the Fall season. One a plus side, our trainer absolutely loves Echo so that might help.

Sarah took some great shots and posted them on Google Web Albums for us to view. So far we're leaning towards picture 23 of 50 - Echo laying in the path of leaves. I also like 18 of 50 because you can see a little further down the path. If #23 was positioned so that you could see more path and a little more clearly, that would be perfect.

Big Screen

Well, Marnie and I have sort of come to terms about buying a big screen HDTV this fall. We both really want one, but we're having a hard time coming to terms with how much they cost and what we want!
*I* have it narrowed to either a 50" DLP Projection, or a 42" Plasma. They are running for about the same price these days depending on the model and "how good" it is. Marn thinks that 50" is too big, by the way, but I'm pushing for it. Plasma would also be nice to hang on the wall and keep it out of "nose and tail's reach".

....and then I read an article in the news today about a new TV based on Laser technology due out next December. It promises to be half the price of plasma, consume 75% less power, and offers more than TRIPLE the picture clarrity and detail (they claim it produces 90% of what the eye can see compared to about 30% with current TV technologies).

hmmm, I usually don't fall into the "technology game" because it's always a lose-lose situation with price and technology, but this one is different. We're talking about a (possible) revolution in TV prices and picture quality. But I don't want to wait 14-15 months for it!
But on the other hand, there'll probably be ANOTHER revolution down the road with some other miracle technology that makes Laser TV's look like "crappy LCD's from the 2000's...."

Echo & Me

Here's an updated shot of Echo sitting beside me. This should give you a prety good idea on just how big he's getting!



Also some pics of the football in Buffalo the other weekend. I didn't take many and didn't bring it into the game because of the crappy weather, but it gives you an idea of some of the mayhem happening in the parking lot. The pictures don't nearly do it justice. Remember that this is only one parking lot which is not even part of the stadium lot, and it didn't get quite a full as last year seemed to. The stadium is way in the background to the left of the second picture below.

I was told that it's the "Wellesley Apple Butter and Cheese Festival". Not Apple, Butter, Cheese. Apple butter. As in, apple-flavoured butter. or something.
Anyway, they had fun, apparently!
